WHY ARE THEY AN 'OBLIGATION'?

  • The Catholic Holy Days of Obligation are the most important feast days.
  • We celebrate them because of the Precepts of the Catholic Church.
  • If someone is really devoted he or she will celebrate a saints feast day everyday.
  • There are 11 days of obligation.

JANUARY 1

  • Solemnity of Mary the Mother of God.
  • In 2013 it wasn't a holy day of obligation.
  • Reason is because it fell on a Tuesday.

JANUARY 6

  • Epiphany.
  • Also known as 3 Kings Day.
  • It is the day when the 3 Kings came to visit Jesus.

  • St. Joseph
  • We celebrate the day Joseph went to Heaven.

  • The Ascension
  • This day is when Jesus ascended into Heaven
