Home Depot has been known for their customer service and satisfaction.

because of this, the company was hesitant to broaden their marketing presence.
nick ayres, their marketing manager, had to take steps slowly to ease the company's worry in order to achieve their goals.

their goal:

creating content while interacting with their customers.

Their Strategy:

product reviews

they began with

this low-risk approach allowed the company to see the impact of social media while not exposing home depot to criticism.

after the success of the product reviews, home depot utilized their resources and began posting 'how-to' videos on youtube.

this allowed home depot to provide customers with what they were requesting and gather feedback for future social media campaigns at the same time.

educational videos did better than regular commercials because it seemed more transparent and diverse.

Their Results:

over 8 million views on their youtube videos.

a new online how-to community where people can post questions, answers, & consult with experts.

and they were named one of the top-five outstanding leaders in youtube marketing by mashable!

slowly but surely, home depot made their way to the top in social media marketing!
