Home Depot perceived the social web as a threat. They felt that by participating on social media platforms, the company would lose control of its marketing message.
Some of goals of Home Depot was to get more involved on the web to reach more shoppers and spread their branding message of the,DO It Yourself store.
One of the ways Home Depot enter the world wide web was to invited people to review products sold by Home Depot. And checking and reading the reviews to see how many people responded. This would be Home Depot first step into reaching their goals and breaking their fears.
After great success with shopper reviewing their product, Home Depot started reach out to Social media making a series of Do It Your Self video that are shared on many social media platforms such as , Facebook, YouTube, Twitter.
2010 Home Depot launched a "online 'How-To' Community ... shoppers can ask questions and get a respond back from a Home Depot associate from anywhere around the world to help with their project.
