WHEN AND WHERE IT APPEARED AND FIRST DISCOVERY

  • This speciesexisted around 2.4 million to 1.4 million years ago.
  • They lived in eastern and southern africa during this time.
  • Near the end of this race homo-erectus had appeared on the earth.

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS

  • They have slightly bigger brains than australopithecus.
  • They have smaller jaw and teeth with a misaligned face.
  • The oldest stone tools are slightly older tha the oldest fossil of this species.
  • They teeth were smaller but were stronger so they could eat nuts and other hard foods.
  • They are as short as 3ft, 4in to 4ft, 5 in and weighing around 70 pounds.

HUMAN AND NON HUMAN LIKE ADAPTIONS

  • They have less body proportions than their descendents.
  • They have a bigger brain.
  • They have longer arms than their ancestors.
  • Their descendants also have a bigger brain allowing them to climb trees.
  • They learned to make tiny huts.

ARTIFACTS

  • The lower jaw and molar Louis S.B. Leakey found of this species.
  • It is important for it showed what the mouth and face of the species was.
  • The Skull was found in Olduvai Gorge in Northern Tanzania.
