Main Problem

The main problem in the story is that they are going to build a pancake house over occupied owl burrows. The burrowing owls are in danger.

FOUR MAIN EVENTS

  • The whole town comes and stands for the Owls not being buried at Mother Paula's Pancake ground breaking event.
  • Beatrice and Roy take Mullet Fingers to the hospital because he is bit by a dog. They put him under Roy's name and they get caught. Mullet Fingers sneaks out of the window and hides at the hospital. He has more plans to save the burrowing owls.

CONTINUING 4 MAIN EVENTS

  • All of the events of the pancake house vandalism is a big part in what happens. This event occurs many times in the story.
  • The last event is when Roy is getting bullied by Dana Matherson, his head is crushed against the window. He sees a barefoot boy running to his interest. He jumps off of the bus and starts to follow him. That is how they meet.

Setting

This story takes place in modern time. The setting is in Coconut Grove, Florida. The boy just moved here from Montana. He is not used to the scenery.

Problem

The problem in the story is that the Burrowing Owls are going to get buried by the pancake business. The solution is that Coconut Grove citizens stand up for what they believe in, by taking a stand at the Ground
Breaking Ceremony. They save the Owls in the end. They stood up for what they believed in.

Message

The message that I received from the story is that it is worth standing up for something that you believe in. If you try really hard, it might even happen. All you have to do is work really hard and believe in the cause.
