PRESENTATION OUTLINE

HOW COAL IS MADE

BY NADIA MCCLARD

WHERE DOES IT COME FROM

  • Humdreds of millions of years ago, there were ancient forests amd swamps
  • When the plants died, they formed layers on the swamp bed
  • Water and earth piled up on the dead plants
  • Pressure and heat from thousands of years build up
  • The oxygen is pushed out leaving just carbon

COAL PREPARATION PLANT

  • Coal is first cleaned with a scrubber
  • It is the cleaned again and put into smaller sizes
  • It is then sent to be burned to become electricity

COAL AND THE ENVIROMENT

  • Coal is made of sulfur, oxygen, hydrogen, carbon, and nitrogen
  • Sulfur is a major pollutant, scrubbers help keep our air clean
  • A non renewable resource because it takes a long time to get more

FUN FACTS

  • Coal ash can be used in concrete to make roads
  • It is added to coral reefs to help then survive
  • At coal mines, soil is replaced for new plants to grow
  • Largest source of energy for making electricity
  • Used for heat, energy and electricity
