Modern-day slavery exists for many reasons, but thankfully some have been able to escape and help other people that are being victimized or trafficked

One reason it exists is because of children being sent from foreign lands to work

In fact, Kathleen Morris, head of the Washington State Anti-trafficking response network, states that, 'You know, we think of trafficking as this huge network of organized crime, which it can be, but it can also be, you know, a couple that wanted a nanny but didn't want to pay for it' (1)

What she's trying to say is, though it can be, human trafficking is not always a large network of crime or sex acts

Another reason it exists is because of terrorist groups that kidnap people and force them into human trafficking

Abu Bakor Shekau is the leader of Boko Haram, a well known terrorist group, and states, "We will give their hands in marriage because they are our slaves. We will sell them in the market' (1)

In April 14 2014, this group burned down an all-girls school after removing them from the building. 276 girls that have been kidnapped to be trafficked

Some people have been able to escape and help other people that have also been trafficked

'The recruiter came across as an older sister and somebody who I could trust. One day she would introduce me to his pimp"- Katariina Rosenblatt, leader of There Is Hope For Me (1)

She was forced to perform sex acts for four years before escaping and creating There Is Hope For Me, twenty years later

They also help stop traffickers with what they experienced

'Social media is the No.1 recruitment tool'- Racine, head of the interview (1)

Kiesh has ran away from 42 foster or group home after running away from home because of sexual abuse. She is then trafficked by 'Sir Charles' Pipkins in Atlanta. She finally escaped after realizing that the money isn't worth it because her life was always in danger

As you can see now, though human-trafficking exists because of numerous reasons, people that have escaped that life are working towards helping people that are in that situation
