How Does the Government Manipulate Information Given to Society

Connection to 1984

• Our inquiry question connects to the book 1984 because the government in the book tries to brainwash and control their societies thoughts. This relates to our question because the manipulation of information by the government is them trying to get us to think how they want us to.

Media Manipulation.

• Media Manipulation is the Government controlling what gets seen and what issues are prominent.
• It portrays a false utopia, allowing society to become complacent and content.

Government Secrecy.

• Government Secrecy is the government hiding information from citizens.
• This is done to keep information confidential that could damage the reputation or image of government officials, or cause the public to be skeptical of their government.

Controlled Brainwash.

• Controlled brainwash can be used for many reasons, most commonly to get information out of somebody or to distort information given to somebody. It happens in every day aspects of life without many people noticing.

Scare Tactics.

• Scare tactics are used as something to change the opinion of citizens on certain topics as well as to make citizens support a cause they might not have supported other wise.

Subliminal Messaging.

• Subliminal messaging is designed to pass below the normal limits of perception, it is unperceived consciously, yet perceived unconsciously.
