WHY DID EXPLORATION BEGIN?
- Money. Those greedy explorers wanted to get paid!
- Fame. Explorers were attention hogs.
- Country. Some explorers were pressed into work. Lazy.
- Religion. The Church decided it needed more land.
HOW DO THEY DO IT?
- Explorers take pride in their mapmaking skills, indispensible.
- The astrolabe is their favorite tool. Without it, they can't sail.
- Take their magnetic compass, and their hiking ability fails.
- The triangular sail lets them sail against the wind. Witchcraft!
- The caravel is their ocean vehicle of choice, a sturdy ship.
WHY FIGHT AN EXPLORER?
- Destructive! Explorers break other people's things!
- Bossy! Explorers always tell others what to believe!
- Invasive! Explorers camp out where they're not wanted!
YOUR FOE
- Vasco De Gama: A slippery fellow, he managed to sail to India.
- Bart Dias. A real trooper, Bart paved the way by sailing around Africa.
- Magellan. Sleek and quick, he sailed all the way around the world!
- These Portuguese explorers paved the way for triangular trade.
- Triangular trade increases the wealth of a country, but doesn't share.
YOUR FOE
- Hernan Cortez. This brutal Spaniard conquered the Aztecs!
- Francisco Pizarro. He ended the Incas! Watch out!
- These Spanish explorers were known as conquerors, or conquistadors.
- They believed children of Spanish/native origin were disgusting, mestizos.
- They used encomienda policy to enslave the natives and mestizos.
