1. Pick Up Clutter
Organize your belongings so they are stored neatly. Keep an area free of clutter in which to work on projects.

2. Clean Up Litter Throw litter in the trash. Keep trash cans available to decrease the likelihood that other people will litter.

3. Put pictures in your visual environment. Cover bare or cracked walls with pictures. Pictures can add warmth and provide some­ thing at which to look.

4. Put plants in your visual environment. Consider adding a plant, an aquarium, or a terrarium to your home. A terrarium is a transparent container that holds plants or smallanimals. Plantsaddcolorandcan improve the atmosphere.

5. Improve the view outside your window. Hang a bird feeder or clean up litter.

6.Change the colors in your visual environment
Colors can impact mood. Bright red, yellow, and orange have an energizing effect. Blues and greens have a relaxing effect.

7. Organize a clean-up campaign Many organizations and community groups sponsor clean-up campaigns in the community in which teens can participate. Other efforts include cleaning up abandoned buildings, picking up litter in parks, and planting trees and flowers.

8. Write to community leaders about visual pollution in your community
Write letters to officials explaining your concerns about such visual pollution as abandoned buildings and graffiti.
