This may sound crazy, but what if I told you that stress is actually a good thing?


People who experienced a lot of stress increased their risk of dying by 43%. BUT...

People who had a lot of stress but did not believe stress was harmful were no more likely to die.
Take-away: When you change your mind about stress you can change your body's reaction to stress.

Typical stress response = heart rate goes up and blood vessels constrict
Participants in study who viewed their stress response as helpful, blood vessels stayed relaxed, healthier stress response

What does this have to do with your sugar habit?

We all know that a certain amount of stress in our lives is inevitable. So why not make it work for you instead of against you?

Your initial craving for sugar, she says, begins when you start to feel stressed. “When we’re stressed out, we have a high level of a hormone called cortisol, and we crave sugar because if we eat some sugar, we will actually get another hormone called serotonin, which is calming and relaxing,” Scritchfield says. “It’s just our body’s way of taking a chill pill.”
