PRESENTATION OUTLINE
the first step to solving oppression in our terms is you take into mind that everyone is equal and should be treated as so.
hitler thought otherwise. he believed one race was superior to the rest.
also in fahrenheit 451, you'd be oppressed if you read books.
in the 20th century, women were not treated as equally as men were. men were the superior gender while women were seen as weak and inferior.
second, if we all saw beyond races and differences, some problems may not have happened.
if you were of a different race than white, you were in a concentration camp. also, if you were white in japan you were enslaved.
if you were like clarisse, you were considered antisocial. she thought about things hence being different.
in the 20th century gays were making themselves known but, half of america considered it unacceptable and a disgrace. they didn't get to have all the rights that others did.
tolerance for differences. you don't have to like the differences but you can respect them.
hitler had no tolerance for the Jews so he sent them to the concentration camps.
Montag thought clarisse was weird at first but, he respected that she was different.
in the 20th century, women could get fired for being pregnant. people couldn't tolerate it and it outlawed the practice.
the understanding of right and wrong.
in hitlers mind, what he was doing was completely right. everyone else would say otherwise but, he felt that this was the way to go.
this also relates to fahrenheit 451. the firemen in this story felt that burning books would keep people happy. when really they were restricting people to think for themselves.
around the world, parents are still forcing their children into arranged marriages. 38,461 women and girls are being forced into marriages against their will.
CREATE A SOCIETY IN WHICH RELIGION IS NOT A FACTOR.
in fahrenheit 451, there was no religion. which is why everyone pretty much got along.
now in the 21st century atheist, homosexuals, and women face oppression because of religion.
Speaking out on the violation of human rights
in the 1930's, arvid harnack passed on secret information to the soviet union in opposition of hitlers rules and government.
in fahrenheit 451, montag tries to get mildred and her friends to overcome their ignorance on the world. he talks to Mrs. phelps and Mrs. bowles about whats really going on in war and politics.
in 21st century america, many advocates speak out on the unfair treatment of gays within the society.
finding ways to solve problems nonviolently
world war 2 started because of an unnecessary violent attack germany did on poland.
the act of removing stereotyping from judgement.
walk a mile in the other persons shoes. if you see things from their perspective, you will know they feel.
and lastly, mind your own business.
