The word 'Huauchinango' or "Cuauchinanco" is derived from the Nahuatl word, comes from the root "cuauitl": tree; "chinamitli": wall and "co": in; what is interpreted as "Place Surrounded by trees".
The head of the Municipality, is located at km 163 of the Mexico-Tuxpan highway, via pyramids, located in the Sierra Norte de Puebla, and is part of the Sierra Madre Oriental that extends into the northern area of the State, from Huauchinango to Teziutlán; bordering the coastal plain of the Gulf of Mexico.
Its gastronomy is varied, starting with the great variety of typical appetizers; the tlacoyos; the tamales llenones and those of papatla; the bean with stopped bean; chicken in chiltepin, encacahuatado and in mushroom; ending with the male chilito with egg in morita sauce; mole poblano accompanied with rice
