Hudson's River is 315 miles
from the southern tip of Manhattan to its origin in the Adirondacks.

The river is named after Henry Hudson, an Englishman sailing for the Dutch East India Company, who explored it in 1609.

The river was called the Great Mohegan, by the Iroquois, and it was known as Muhheakantuck ("river that flows two ways").

When the Dutch colonized the area, they called the river "Rio de Montaigne". Later, the river was named the "North River".
