Racial discrimination is when a person is treated less favourably than another in a similar situation beacuase of their race, colour, descent, nationality, ethnic origin, immagrant status.

Example:

Only one race in need of a job can qualify.

What is racial segregation?

Racial Segregation is the separation of humans into racial groups in daily life.

EXAMPLE:

Both races have been seperated in the use of a drinking fountain.

And example in histroy of this is the "Apartheid". A political sytem which developed in South Africa that legally separated races into racial groups and gave each group different rights. White people had all the advantages.

World known South African president Nelson Mandela was a champion of the anti-apartheid movement. Nelson had spent 2 7 years in prison. In 1991 he became president of African National Congress, he began to negotiate the future of south Africa.

Why is there such things as Racial Discrimination and Racial Segregation?

Because of RACISIM

Racism is the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.

An example in history is when black people were treated and traded like animals by whites. Millions were forced to labour, totured and even killed by their owners.

Example

In what forms does racism apear?

Evidence on racism and its effects emerges in many ways. It may be in speeches, newspaper article, jokes, TV shows and personal comments.

Example:

Why do other races believe they are more superior than other races?

Because of few things like:

  • Ignorance
  • Twisted belief in evolution
  • Giving into racial stereotypes

Ignorance- Lack of knowlege or information. often in their own little bubble
Twisted belief in evolution- That whites who are blond and blue eyed are pure human and anyone else is not full human.
Racial stereotypes- That certain races carry out the same chararictics. Media pays a big part in this.

An example of ignorance is when there are problems such as shortage of jobs and housing, people tent to want to blame someone who looks different from them.

This type of ignorance is called scapegoating. This also helps certain races to fuel their hostility to other races.

Supremecy groups in the US (all white)

  • Klu Klux Klan (kkk)
  • Neo-Nazi
  • Aryan Brother hood
  • Aryan Nations
  • American Third Nation Position Party.

People de-bunking racial sterotypes.

A friend once told me at her brothers school a white boy had lost something. His white teacher who thought it had been stolen checked in bags of children who were of colour as a way to identify who had stolen it. This is racial segregation and racial discrimination in one.

This type of behaviour displayed by a teacher would only make the students feel less of themselevs and even ashamed of their ethnicity.

Racial discrimination and racial segregation will unfortunatley never end.

With social media sites and media in general constantly joking and potraying characters as stereotypes things wont get any better.

They are influencing younger generations that it ok to say this, your skin colour is not of beauty standards or all asians talk like this and so on.
