Humanism

  • Humanism is a way of thought that focuses on human beings and their
  • potential for achievement.
  • Humanism stresses the study of such classical subjects as history, grammar,
  • literature, and philosophy.
  • The goal of humanism is to create well-rounded individuals.

Petrarch

  • Petrarch was the early leader of the humanist movement. 
  • Petrarch was one of the first thinkers to stress the value of classical  
  • learning.
  • He worked to find and restore the works of many important Greek and Roman  
  • writers

Humanist thought

  • Humanism stressed the importance of the individual.
  • Humanist thinkers also stressed the importance of leading a christian life.
  • Although humanist thinkers stressed that people think for themselves, 
  • and not always accept church orders.
  • They also taught that people can enjoy life while being a good christian.

The new age for creativity

  • Humanism helped people to desire to do more experiments,  
  • explore, and create.
  • All this creativity led to the movement known as the
  •  Renaissance. The Renaissance was a movement of great creativity in art, 
  • writing, and thought.

The rise of humanism

  • The rise of humanism can be seen in paintings created by the 
  •  Renaissance artists.
  • During the renaissance as humanism became more popular 
  • ordinary people became to be the same size as saints in 
  • paintings.
