PRESENTATION OUTLINE

LEVELS OF THE GOVERNMENT

FEDERAL, STATE AND TERRITORY, AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS

FEDERAL legislates, or makes laws for the whole of Australia. It is in charge of immigration, defence, taxation, postal and telecommunication services, trade and commerce, currency and many more.

IMMIGRATION

  • They control who comes in and out of the country and if they have to be deported.

DEFENCE

  • Choose how much money they put into training facilities, weapons and vehicles.
  • They also make sure they are up to date with weapons, make sure they work and make new weapons.

TAXATION

  • Decide how much money Australia spend on the tax and what to do with the tax money.

POSTAL AND TELECOMMUNICATION SERVICES

  • How much each post cost
  • Where they are allowed to deliver to

TRADE AND COMMERCE

  • Who and where the country buys from and sells too

CURRENCY

  • Monitoring our money value over seas

STATE AND TERRITORY
Six states and two mainland TERRITORY, makes laws for their state or territory. They are in charge of schools, hospitals, public transport, police, prison, consumer affairs and much more.

SCHOOLS

  • How much they fund each school and what subjects each school do.

HOSPITALS

  • How much they fund hospitals and supply hospital equipment

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

  • Making sure all tracks are safe to use and the transport is working
  • How much transport hey need and where each transport take you.

POLICE

  • Making sure they have enough training and are safe and expirinced with weapons
  • If they have enough police men and women at each police station

CONSUMER AFFAIRS

  • Fixing problems and representing the consumer

LOCAL COUNCIL
Makes local laws, called by-laws for their region or district. Local councils control local roads, footpaths, cycleways, street signage and lighting, parking, sewerage, domestic animal regulation, waste management and more.

ROADS, FOOTPATHS, CYCLEWAYS, STREET SIGNAGE AND LIGHTING

  • Make sure ROADS are safe to drive on
  • Make sure there's enough footpaths for people to walk on
  • People who cycle have somewhere to safely ride
  • Enough street signs so no one crashes
  • Enough light shining on the roads so people can see what's around them.

PARKING

  • How much you pay to park
  • When and where you have to pay
  • How long your allowed to stay in each parking spot.

SEWRAGE

  • Making sure there's enough sewerage systems
  • Checking to see if the systems overflow and proventing it

DOMESTIC ANIMAL REGULATION

  • Making sure animals (pets) are registered and microchipped
  • Checking their health is good

WASTE MANAGEMENT

  • Makes sure rubbish bins are collected and waste is out somewhere, where it won't harm anyone or anything

HOW AND WHY POLITICAL PARTIES ARE FORMED
People with similar views and ideas form a group and have this officially registered as a political party. 500 members required. They do this to try and influence the way the country is run including introducing/modifying laws.
