DESCRIPTION

• A hurricane is a big spinning super storm that rains a lot and has high winds
• A hurricane is mostly made out of clouds and water which can have a width of 400-500 feet wide
• A hurricane is made up of different parts
• Hurricanes are known for there powerful wind speed
• A hurricane is categorized by its wind speed

LOCATIONS

• A hurricane can only form over a body of water
• A hurricane needs to form over warm water 80° and above
• A hurricane forms usually forms from June through November
• A hurricane uses warm water that rises up from the surface to make it stronger
• A hurricane spins faster and faster getting stronger

DANGERS

• Hurricanes cause deadly flooding
• Winds can blow houses away and push water inland causing flooding
• In a hurricane it can rain between 6-12 inches also causing flooding
• Winds can pick up objects and make them fly through the air at missile speed and can penetrate almost anything
• Hurricanes can pick up debris and carry it back to the ocean that can kill animals

EFFECTS OR DAMAGE HURRICANES CAN CAUSE

• Uprising sea causes major flooding inland
• Flooding gets wood in house bases wet making it collapse
• Winds can blow houses away because of these wet bases
• Rain just packs on with the flooding causing flooding to worsen
• Hurricane winds and flooding carry debris everywhere taking forever to pick up

FAMOUS OR WELL KNOWN HURRICANES

• The Great Miami Hurricane is the worst hurricane ever to happen
• Hurricane Katrina is the second worst hurricane to happen
• 1900 Galveston hurricane is the third worst hurricane to happen and said to be the worst U.S diaster
• 1915 Galveston was another bad hurricane that happened 15 years after the 1900 Galveston
• Hurricane Andrew was the faith worst hurricane to happen

PREVENTION AND HOW TO STAY SAFE WHEN HURRICANES OCCUR

• You need to protect yourself and your home when hurricanes occur
• You can board up your windows so water and debris do not break them
• You can buy a garage kit at stores
• The garage kits reinforce your garage so winds do not break them
• Make sure that you are updated on what is happening with the hurricane and that there is one coming or how far away it is
