  • A storm with violent winds and torrential down pours that form over oceans
  • Category 1: winds 119-153 mph
  • Category 2: winds 154-177 mph

HURRICANE SANDY

  • Location- East U.S., Bahamas, East Canada
  • Death toll-285
  • Description- Category 3

SHORT TERM EFFECTS

  • Land- farming land,flooding, debris
  • Population- food, cost in damage, illnesses

RED CROSS

  • We are fundraising For the American Red Cross
  • They help people who have had homes destroyed in hurricanes, tornadoes, ect.
  • Detroit: 2115 Woodward Ave, Riverview: 20950 Grange Rd, Waterford: 5144 Highland Rd., and more
  • The money will be used to help buy homes, food, clothes, ect.
  • They support all over the U.S.A to help all in need like hurricane,tornado,earthquakes, and the homeless

LONG TERM EFFECTS

  • Land- rebuilding communities, flooding, farming land
  • Population- rebuilding communities, deaths

PREPAREDNESS

  • Put together a disaster kit
  • Include-
  • 1.)water-at least a supply for a gallon per person per day (about 3)
  • 2.)food-at least 3 meals a day per person in the home (dry foods, vacuum packed etc.)
  • 3.)blankets, whistle, radio, flashlight with extra batteries etc.(redcross.org)

RELIEF AND RECOVERY

  • The damage is fix but it takes along time to-9
  • recovery from the mental damage.
  • Organizations, like the Red Cross, provide shelter.
  • They help people recover by cleaning up
  • and help build new homes and buildings

WHO ARE WE FUNDRAISING FOR?

  • All of the proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross
  • The Red Cross is a non-profit organization
  • Muskingum Valley Chapter 22 S. 7th Street Zanesville, OH
  • The money will be used for hurricane victims

  • Location- Eastern North America
  • Death toll-1833
  • Description- one of the top 5 most deadly hurricanes in the U.S.-Category 5

HURRICANE ANDREW

  • Date- 8/16/92-8/28/92
  • Location- Southern North America and the Bahamas
  • Death toll-65
  • Description- the last category 5 hurricane to strike the U.S. In the 20th century
