WHAT IS A HURRICANE?
A violent wind
Tropical cyclone

Warm, moist air rises and leaves behind a low pressure area below
The low pressure area then is filled with air that has higher pressure
Air becomes wet, and warm also so it rises as well
Creates circular motion,pulls in moisture from the ocean and higher winds

WAYS TO PROTECT YOURSELF
Evacuate from mobile home, trailer, home by the coast or elevated home
Rid of any loose/weak branches or dead trees near your home
Board up or tape windows to avoid flying shattered glass from entering your home
Always have an evacuation plan in place
Never drive into or through water that could be covering an escape route

Large waves carry a lot of energy, which can drown people

A typical hurricane can dump 6 inches to a foot of rain across a region.
The first hurricane of the year has a name beginning with the letter “A”.
Every second, a large hurricane releases the energy of 10 atomic bombs
A Tropical storm is called a hurricane once winds reach 74 mph or higher
They are only weather disasters that have been given their own names.
