What Is A Hurricane?

  • It is an intense tropical weather system.
  • With winds of 74mph. Or higher.

HOW DOES A HURRICANE FORM?

  • By high winds over warm water.
  • They gather heat and energy through contact with warm ocean water.
  • Warm waters rises and forms clusters of strom to rotate.
  • If it becomes strong enough it can become a tropical storm.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A HURRICANE?

  • Heavy rain
  • Strong winds
  • Trees falling
  • Lighting
  • Huge waves and debris.

SCIENTIFIC PROCESS

  • Hurricanes only form over really warm water.
  • 80 degrees or warmer.
  • The atmosphere must cool off quickly
  • WInd must be blowing in the same direction.

5 CATEGORIES OF HURRICANES

  • Category1-Minimal damage 74-95mph.winds
  • Category2-Moderate damage-96-110mph.winds.
  • Category3-Extensive damage 111-130mph.winds
  • Category4-Extreme damage 131-155mph.winds
  • Category5-Catastrophic damage over155mph.winds.
