CIRCULATORY SYSTEM ACTIVITY
THINGS TO KNOW...
- The heart gets messages from the body to pump less or more.
- When we're sleeping it doesn't have to work as hard to pump oxygen.
- When we're exercising or scared the heart pumps faster to provide oxygen.
MATERIALS
- Blood pressure monitor.(sphygmomanometer)
- Something to record data in.(pencils and notebook )
- Empty space to perform exercises/activities
PROCEDURE
- Get in to groups of 3.
- Have something ready to record data in.
- Now, put the blood monitor around your wrist.
- Relax your hand and put your hand across your chest.
- Push the start button(warning it will squeeze your wrist )
MAKE SURE TO STRAP IT ON YOUR WRIST LIKE THIS...
AFTER THAT PUSH THE POWER BUTTON
AFTER THAT PUSH THE START BUTTON
THEN PLACE IT ACROSS YOUR CHEST LIKE THIS...
AFTER IT STOPS RECORD THE DATA ON THE DATA TABLE
PROCEDURE
- Make sure each group member records their own heart rate .
- Take turns.
- After that , find an empty place.
- Pick an exercise to do for 30 seconds.(ex:jumping jacks,running in place)
- After that repeat the previous procedures to measure your current heart rate.
COMPARE AND CONTRAST
- Look at the data and notice the differences.
- How did your rate change after exercising?
- Why do you think your heart rate changed?
- What do you think would happen if you exercised longer?
