PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Hydroelectric Energy

Hydroelectric Energy is one of the oldest ways of producing water. Romans created turbines, which are wheels turned by water. The first hydroelectric plant was built in 1882. 💧💦

The first hydroelectric plant was in Appleton, Wisconsin on the Fox River.

BENEFITS

  • It is a clean fuel source
  • It is a domestic source of energy, allowing each state to produce their own energy without being reliant on international fuel
  • It can generate power immediately at the hydroelectric plants

DISADVANTAGES

  • The disturbance of habitats
  • Costs for installation
  • It has a limited use
  • Effects on agriculture
  • Kills Fish

8 COOL FACTS PART:1

  • Every state uses hydropower for electricity, and some states use a lot of it.
  • Hydropower costs less than most energy sources
  • Dams are built for a number of uses in addition to producing electricity, such as irrigation, shipping and navigation, flood control or to create reservoirs for recreational activities
  • Over 70 percent of Washington State’s electricity comes from hydropower

8 COOL FACTS PART:2

  • States that use mostly hydroelectric energy have energy bills that are lower than the rest of the country
  • It provides about seven percent of the electricity generated in the United States
  • New Zealand uses hydropower for 75% of its electricity.
  • Hydropower is the most efficient way to generate electricity
