Harness and Transfer Energy

  • Held behind a dam, forcing and artificial lake, or resevoir
  • The force of water being released from reservoir through the dam
  • spins the blades of a giant turbine

USABLE IN OUR AREA? HARMFUL WASTES?

  • We have the atuttle Creek Dam already and we
  • can use Hydropower to transfer energy
  • Non- Polluting but has enviromental impacts
  • Most hydroelectric plants have a dam or reservoir
  • Methane, a strong greenhouse gas, can be emitted into atmosohere

Habitats effected? health concerns?

  • Habitats can be effected by Methane in the air
  • Can cause concerns to health and safety of people,
  • animals, and the land because of Methane

cost to fossil fuels

  • Very effecient and inexpensive
  • Leading source of renewable energy
  • Provides more than 97% of all electricity generated
  • by renewable sources worldwide
  • Prevents burning of billions of gallons of oil and million tons if coal

cost to use

  • Will vary from power plant to power plant with one of
  • the main variables being the size of the plant
  • The larger the plant, the cheaper the cost per Kw to produce

SAVING? EMPLOYMENT OPPURTUNITIES?

  • Can be expensive at 1st, but cheaper than getting a
  • National Grid if you don't already have one
  • Employs up to 300,000 workers, can expand American workforce
  • From project development to Manu to facilities operations
  • and maintenance.

INVENTOR, invented

  • In 1849, engineer James Francis developed the Francis Turbine
  • Type of turbine most widely used today
  • Worlds first hydropower plant begins operations in Appleton, Wisconsin
  • On Fox River

where used and will commmunity accept?

  • Canada, Brazil, China, U.S.A, Russia, Norway, India, Japan
  • Venezuela, Sweden, France, Paraguay, and Turkey
  • Depends on the person, some would oppose it because it destroys
  • habitats for animals.
  • Others would like for cost and other reasons

ENERGY PRODUCED? HOW HAS IT AFFECTED LIVES?

  • 7.1% currently produced
  • Has made lives better, costs less over a long period of time
  • If you live off grid, installing hydrosystem can be expensive but less then
  • the cost of getting a National Grid if you don't have one
