PRESENTATION OUTLINE

HYPERTRICHOSIS

AKA WEREWOLF SYNDROME

Hypertrichosis is a genetic disorder that causes abnormal amounts of hair growth. The appearance of people with Hypertrichosis is where the nickname of 'Werewolf Syndrome' comes from.

Most Hypertrichosis appears after birth but some gets triggered later on in life.

There are two main types of Hypertrichosis, one is located all over the body and one is contained to one or more areas of the body.

Hypertrichosis can be inherited from your mother or father and it is often pair with cancer as the hair growth is a result of excessive hormone production.

As not much is known about the disorder, the treatments are limited. Treatments include permanent hair removal which can lead to scarring and dermatitis.

People with Hypertrichosis were very popular in carnivals around the world. The famous 'Lady with a Beard' was a sufferer of Hypertrichosis.
