WHAT IS PROGERIA?

  • Progeria is a genetic mutation that can cause children to age very fast.
  • Most of the children with the disease die by the age of 13.

GENES

  • The gene that causes this is called LMNA
  • The normal LMNA produces the protein lamin A protein which is the structural scaffolding that holds the nucleus of w cell together. The abnormal LMNA messes up the scaffolding, which results in an unstable nucleus in the cell.

GOOD/BAD

  • This disease is 99% bad!
  • There is really nothing in the disease that is good.
  • The only good that comes out of it is that the doctors can do more research and human clinical trials on them.
