Burial, birth and marriage are considered the top three most important events as a family

Igbo family

• family is very important
• nuclear family (husband, wife, kids)
• extended family- not as important
• married life is same as ours
• polygamy is normal

Polygamy has a big influence on the family ranking in the Igbo culture. Okonkwo in the book practices polygamy because he has three wives.
