Biography

• Born in an era of companions
• Companions = abstinence,knowledgable and generous
• Originated from = Kufa,Iraq
• As a child, he acquired primary and basic islamic knowledge which was short lived due to his father’s death
• Subsequently, he supported his family’s trading business
• At the age of 22, he was advised by Imam Sha’bee to associate himself with scholars
• Some of his characteristics include : impartiality, generosity and kind heartedness !
• And died at the age of 70 :(

• He formulated systematic usul Fiqh method
• He was a trader of silk making family business
• He loved and appreciated his teachers

Fatwa

• All intoxicants are prohibited in Hanafi fiqh
• The leniency of the rulling according to some hanafi scholars can be benefitted from in areas of extreme need , like alcohol in some medication

• Books:
• Fiqh al-Akbar, Kitaab-ul Aathaar & Musnab Imaam ul A’zam
• Contributed to the development of fiqh by asking intelligent questions and trying to answer them by using structured and methodical ways.
• Through rational discourse and argumentation, Imam Hanafi had helped the fuqaha to detect discrepencies and contradictions in their thinking and reasoning.
