  • Immigration is where someone moves to a new country/place for a new life

3 REASONS WHY A PERSON MIGHT MOVE TO A NEW COUNTRY

  • Jobs
  • Plentiful land
  • Opportunities for a better life

CHARACTER PROFILE

  • Im Giuseppe Ghislanzoni
  • I arrived in 1899
  • My homeland is italy
  • I speak italian

SECOND CHARACTER PROFILE

  • Im a farmer
  • I moved to america because insects were eating my crops so i had to sell my crops and move to america
  • A challenge for me might be that i don't speak American
  • My skill is farming

INSPECTON

  • I entered through the barge office
  • Examiners would give them health inspections
  • They checked my luggage and let me in to america

INSPECTION

  • I brought two weeks of clothes and a quart of homemade olive oil
  • The olive oil will help me cook and the clothes will keep me warm
  • I will need to buy water and food and maybe more clothes
  • I have $19

LIVING IN A NEW WORLD

  • I had trouble finding a job
  • I had a lot of trouble trying to get a place to live because no one wanted to rent to an Italian
  • I live by a lot of other Italians so that is making my life easy
  • I don't speak English so that is making my life harder

IMMIGRANT POLICIES

  • The Chinese exclusion act made it so Chinese immigrants couldn't enter America for 10 years
  • The immigration act of 1917 made it so immigrants had to be able to read and write
  • These acts made it hard for immigrants to enter the country
  • Some Americans supported immigrants because it supplied America with more workers

AMERICAN DREAM

  • My life changed for the worse because i couldn't find a job and got kicked out of my apartment so i moved back to italy
  • If i was born in the United States i could have found a job because i would have spoke the language and wouldn't have been kicked out of my apartment

REFLECTION

  • My biggest challenges was finding a job and apartment
  • My journey was not worth the effort because i eventually went back to italy
  • The American dream to me means that you find a job and a house
