Russians/Mennonites

  • Came because land was cheap
  • Faced: Conflict and Disrespect
  • Only Cooperation was within their own culture

British

  • British people would have to work with the army 
  • British people faced mostly cooperation and conflict issues
  • They were treated better than other immigrants 
  • Given better jobs

Germans

  • Left because of World War I bombings
  • Left Because sicknesses
  • Canada was offering free land
  • Were disrespected because they were enemies of the British
  • Later the Canadians found out the Germans were good workers and artistic

Scandinavians

  • Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland are the main countries
  • Income levels went down and jobs were becoming scarce
  • Immigrated to Canada to live a better life and support their families
  • Got everything they expected and were accepted into Canada as white people

Icelanders

  • Came to obtain freedom
  • Came because there was a large tract of land available
  • Came for their own language
  • They fit in with the others and were treated as they expected

  • France had political problems so people decided to leave
  • Faced Competition with other people who wanted free land
  • Faced Conflict with others when they had to fight for the free land
  • Experienced Cooperation when they were able to practice their religion
  • Experienced Cooperation when they were able to speak in French

Chinese

  • Came to work on the Canadian Pacific Railway
  • They had a hard time because they didn't speak English 
  • They had a hard time because they weren't prepared for the weather
  • Weren't especially wanted by Canadians and suffered discrimination

  • Came to work in gold fields
  • Faced hardships because of their language
  • Weren't prepared for the climate
  • Weren't especially wanted by the Canadian Government

Change?

  • Immigration changed because people mostly travel by plane now
  • People are usually welcome into other countries nowadays
  • There is less discrimination and racism in the world today
  • Immigration is done more professionally now and it is done by travel agents
