IMMUNE

SYSTEM

The immune system is the system that will prevent from getting sick. If you happen to get sick it will try to kill the bacteria, virus ,fungi, or protozoan as fast as it can. The main job of the immune system is to protect you from invaders.

WAYS YOU ARE PROTECTED

  • Skin
  • Your eyes, nose, and mouth has it's own defenses
  • White blood cells
  • Antibodies

THE SKIN

Your skin, it's a barrier that prevents pathogens from entering your body. If the pathogens do make it in your body your immune system tries to eliminate it as fast as possible before the pathogen can reproduce. But, if the pathogen does get into your body and is able to reproduce your body is in charge of eliminating it.

NOSE, MOUTH,EYES

Your nose, mouth and eyes being entry points have there own little defenses, tears and mucus. Tears and mucus contain an enzyme that breaks the cell wall of many bacteria. Bacteria are trapped in the mucus, rather then killed right away.We have white blood cells that help fight the diseases off. Large white blood cells destroy almost all of the bacteria they attack. Interferons attack viruses(interferons are produced by body cells). If the invaders perhaps gets pass these defenses, there is another.

WHITE BLOOD CELLS

We have white blood cells that help fight the diseases off. Large white blood cells destroy almost all of the bacteria they attack. Interferons attack viruses(interferons are produced by body cells). If the invaders perhaps gets pass these defenses, there is another.

ANTIBODIES

Antibodies are proteins produced by the immune system. Some are produced by different white blood cells. Some are found floating along in the blood. It doesn't matter where/what their type is they are responsible for killing dangerous/harmful diseases.

OTHER SYSTEMS

ONES THAT WORK WITH THE IMMUNE SYSTEM

The immune system works with the digestive and circulatory system, the digestive system breaks down the food, the circulatory takes the nutrients from the food and brings it to the cells(like T-cells, B-cells, white blood cells...etc.). Other systems help provide energy for the immune system, in return the immune system helps protect our body.

DISEASES

Two diseases that are associated the immune system

  • Cancer
  • Influenza

CANCER

Cancer, often times caused by genetics has several different forms/types. One being Luekemia is cancer of the body's blood forming tissues, including the bone marrow.

INFLUENZA

Influenza being one of the more common sicknesses. Unlike the common cold the flu can only be caused by type A, C, and B.

Five facts
Getting under 5 hours of sleep a night has been shown to effect your immune system, the best way to boost the immune system is to reduce stress, you need sunlight for Vitamin D to much sunlight can hurt the immune system. Watermelon and cabbage can strengthen the immune system. A positive attitude can be healthy.
