  • Commander of the Continental Army during the American Revolution.

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN

  • Tried to unite the colonies with his Albany Plan of Union.
  • was an ambassador to France tried to convince them to help us
  • negotiate the Treaty of Paris at the end of the American Revolution

KING GEORGE III

  • This person taxed the colonists, denied them representation in the Parliament;
  • he was a tyrant

THOMAS JEFFERSON

  • Main author of the Declaration of Independence

JOHN ADAMS

  • Part of the Continental Congress, was on the committee that wrote the Declaration of Independence.
  • During the Revolutionary War he served in France and Holland in diplomatic roles
  • And helped negotiate the treaty of peace

ABIGAIL ADAMS

  • One of the first women’s rights activists,
  • tried to use her husband to fight for women’s
  • Rights when the Constitution was written in 1787

SAM ADAMS

  • One of the men who started the Sons of Liberty,
  • wanted representation in the English Parliament, instigator, agitator

  • First man killed in the cause of independence – African American

  • Great orator (speaker) The Voice of the Revolution addressed the Virginia House of Burgesses

THOMAS PAINE

  • Wrote Common Sense – propaganda. Wrote in a common way, for the common man, tried to get loyalists to begin and support the fight for independence. Wrote “The Crisis” – tried to help the American troops by motivating them to stay on and help fight for the cause.
