My Project

  • The purpose of my project was to study Roman History
  • This is because the people and culture interest me
  • Also You have to learn about Rome in High school and College
  • I have been a little behind on my goals because
  • There is a large amount of  knowledge to be gained

The Origin of rome

  • Rome started as a small town in Italy in 753 BC
  • It was said to be founded by Romulus and Remus
  • This new town grew rapidly as a monarchy
  • But by 500 BC, Rome had become a republic

Roman Government

  • The main power was in the 2 annually elected consuls.
  • These people were elected by the people and the Senate
  • The first laws were officially made in 450 BC
  • They were inscribed on 12 tablets and included...
  • ...legal, civil and property rights of people

Roman Emperors

  • Julius Caesar never held the "emperor" title
  • but his nephew and heir Augustus Caesar did.
  • The last emperor was Romulus Augustuslus.
  • Romulus was soon deposed by the Germanic King Odoacer
  • in 476 AD. This theory is not fully supported  but plausible.

Religion

  • The Romans wanted to please their Gods for good luck and
  • fortune. The Romans would pray to a different God for a different topic.
  • Jews were uncommon in Rome but there was a good number of them.
  • When Jesus was killed in Rome his message spread across the Empire.
  • Many Romans switched to Catholisism.

The Pax Romana

  • "Pax Romana" literally means Roman Peace.
  • The Pax Romana was a period of time between 27 BCE to 180 BC
  • where Rome and its citizens experienced peace and huge
  • economic prosperity. Everyone was safe and crime levels
  • were low. This time period began when Octavian became the leader.

Plans For the future

  • I plan to either go into the culture and architecture
  • of Rome and connect it to modern society,
  • or change my study to something completely
  • different instead of studying the same thing
  • for the whole year.
