CADDO INDIANS

THEY BELONGED TO THE SOUTHEASTERN CULTURE GROUP

The Caddo's population was the strongest during the 1500s, but there are still small groups existing today.

CADDO FOOD

CORN, SQUASH, BEANS, DEER, TURKEY, ETC.

The Caddo Indian houses were big tall cone shaped grass huts covered with cane. They had winter homes and summer homes( their summer home had only a roof and no walls)

Caddo Clothing:
Men wore breach cloths
and women wore wrap around skirts and poncho tops.

Caddo's farmed corn, gathered berries, and hunted deer and turkey.

Kids played a game where they tried to throw a dart through a moving hoop.
*Each village had a sports field.

They lived in the piney woods and burned patches of the forest so they could plant their crops.

This is how you say you're out of your mind in caddo
"Coo-sah-oh-na-ah-nit".

They said "te-haas" (Texas) which means those with friends.

They were trading partners/allies with France and Spain during the colonial erra.

The Caddos used dogs to carry their belongings before they had horses.

Caddo bows were made from Osage Orange wood.
