Cholera

DURING THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION

CHOLERA

  • Vibrio cholerae is the cause of cholera
  • It is found in dirty water
  • There was an outbreak in London (1830's)
  • During this outbreak 7000 people died
Vibrio Cholerae is a bacteria that causes cholera. The outbreak happened in 1831-1832. 7000 was about 1/2(50%)of the people that were infected by cholera.

SYMPTOMS

  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea/Vomiting
  • Dehydration
  • Muscle cramps
  • Shock

SYMPTOMS IN CHILDREN

  • Most symptoms are same with these three added
  • Extreme drowsiness/Coma
  • Fever
  • Convulsions (muscle spasms)

PREVENTION

  • There is a vaccine(unrecommended because it's temporary)
  • Use only water that is boiled, chemically disinfected OR bottled
