  • New sources of energy: coal fired steam engine
  • Railroad and steam engine
  • Cotton gin and other spinners and weavers
  • Interchangeable parts and assembly line
  • Textile industry

WHY DID THEY MOVE

  • They wanted to get out of the poor class and jump into the working class
  • They had better economic opportunity
  • They could earn more money for their family.
  • To get out of hardships and farm life.
  • Social structures are not as rigid

RURAL TO URBAN

  • In the 1800 the rural population was 85 percent.
  • The urban population in the 1800's was 15 percent.
  • In 1900 the urban population and the rural population were equal

  • They were expected to take care of the children
  • they were economically dependent on male
  • Could only work with husband permission

  • Captains of the industry: Aristocracy of wealth (rich people)
  • Middle class: managers, accountants and other professionals
  • Working class: unskilled, vulnerable, wage earners

GOALS OF TRADE UNION

  • To get more equal rights for the working class
  • Regulated business and made social security better
  • Higher wages and better working conditions
