PRE INDUSTRIAL/TRADITIONAL SOCIETY

  • People had to farm land in a disorderly way
  • Had to work long, physically hard day
  • Farming was primarily done the same was as 1000 years ago
  • Farmed using hand held tools
  • Lived in isolated cottages and lived by candle light

ENCLOSURE MOVEMENT

  • Enclousre increased output but causes migration
  • Rich land owners pushed out peasant farmers
  • Took over and controlled land formily shared by peasant farmers
  • As land enclosure rose, so did the farm output
  • Needed less workers thus making people unemployed

CROP ROTATION, SEED DRILL, MAIZE, POTATO, TURNIPS

  • Crop rotation replenished the lands with needed nutrients
  • The seed drill planted seeds in an orderly straight line
  • Many advances in farming greatly increased the output
  • Soon famine would end because of such great farming

COTTAGE INDUSTRY AND EARLY CAPITALISM (DOMESTIC SYSTEM)

  • Each person knew one step of the process
  • Worked from home in their cottages
  • Kinda an inconvenience for the investor
  • Has to go cottage to cottage
  • Investers made profit off seeling the goods

TEXTILE IDUSTRY AND RISE OF FACTORY SYSTEM

  • This greatly made everything more efficient
  • All steps needed were all in the same place
  • Output increased drastically
  • Familys moved close to the factories where they worked

ENERGY SOURCES

  • Coal helped run steam enigines
  • Coal was abundant and burns at a high temp
  • Iron could hold burning coal
  • Iron was abundent
  • Water also was abundent especially since they are on an island

TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENTS

  • Steam engines led to steam power trains and boats
  • This allowed trains to go where water wasn't
  • Trains cut time and distance
  • Led to more efficient trading
  • Steam power ships led to more easier trading

WHY BRITAIN LED THE WAY

  • Britain led the way for may reasons such as
  • Resources such as coal, iron, and water
  • Technological advances
  • Economic conditions
  • Political/social conditions
