THE CREATION

  • Come from Europe, mainly Britain
  • Came after the blockades still set up even after the war of 1812
  • Started years earlier as a simple textile industry
  • Soon after the war it combined all the major works using textile industries
  • It really takes form in the north, New England

THE NORTH

  • Was the beginning of the industrial revolution in the country
  • Had farming but mainly focused on industry
  • Really was self relying, built to sustain the north by itself

THE SOUTH

  • Relied on itself and farming
  • Created the cotton gin
  • The growth and development of slavery was parallel
  • The more people created plantations the more slavery increased
  • Relied on what was produced in the south more then the north

BENEFITS OF AMERICAN INDUSTRY

  • Women and children could find somewhere to work
  • Created multiple jobs
  • Helped America become a self sustaining country during a difficult time
  • Helped the idea of mass production in a assembly line fashion

THE WEALTHY AND POOR

  • The wealthy side began to build industries and then build more
  • This created more jobs for the poor
  • Instead of only owning on factory, some wealthy opened up multiple factories

A SPLIT

  • As the industrial revolution began a split began to form
  • Two sides southerners and northerners
  • The south focused on cash crop and agriculture, and slaves
  • The north focused on building factories and no slaves

THE SPLIT

  • The split was causing problems in the government
  • Madison had a plan that would unify the two sides
  • It was called the American system and was broken into three steps

THE AMERICAN SYSTEM

  • THREE BASIC STEPS WERE CREATED TO FROM HIS PLAN
  • Developing transportation systems and other internal improvements
  • Establishing protective tariff
  • Resurrecting the national bank

IDEAS FOR AMERICAN PLAN

  • The idea was to unify the north and the south
  • To make them more unified so they relied on each other
  • They wanted to make it easier to rely on each other
  • Easier ways to travel, such as roads, railroads and boat travel

FOCUS ON TRAVEL

  • The north had a higher concentration of travel
  • Since they were the center of trade and money
  • They had all the main industry's and businesses
  • Most southerners would travel using canals and railroads to trade goods

SUGGESTED TARIFFS

  • The idea was to exterminate foreign goods
  • To clear them from American trade
  • To help boast the economy and become more self relying
  • The north loved the idea
  • The south hated it

NATIONAL BANK

  • This was one thing the north and south agreed on
  • Both thought it would help Americans keep their money
  • They hoped and believed it would help creat and better future

ELECTION OF 1816

  • With all this arguing going back and forth, the election was coming
  • Who would be elected would have to represent the peoples interested
  • In the 1816 election
  • James Monroe won the election
