Transportation

  • James Watt created the steam engine 
  • It was a revolution in travel and transportation of goods
  • It also revolutionized the way people did work              
  • This also allowed factories to become powered cheaper
  • With the use of this technology production soared   

Natural Resources

  • Coal Mining allowed Europe to fuel their machines
  • Advances in Agriculture leads to improve crop yeild
  • The development of Iron smelted with coke as opposed to charcoal

Coal mining

  • Advancements in coal mining led to greater yields of coal 
  • This surplus powered the innovations and machines   
  • This also powered innovations and production in the smelting industry

Movement

  • Coal was transported down mine shafts by cart
  • They were then hauled in baskets to the surface
  • Workers had long hours spent on hard labor

Firemen

  • Hired to remove dangerous gasses in mine shaft
  • Used a candle on the end of a long stick 
  • Often died in gas explosions; high mortality rate
