COLD
- Is caused by a virus (infection of respiritory system)
- Can only reproduce in a living cell
- Symptoms:cough, stuffy/runny nose, and headache
- Can only treat symptoms, no cure
INFLUENZA AKA THE FLU
- Caused by highly contagious virus (respiratory)
- Symptoms:fever, muscle aches, more severe cough
- Usually lasts a longer amount of time
STREP THROAT
- Contagious bacterial infection
- Symptoms:fever, pain, redness, swelling of throat and tonsils
- Could cause rheumatic fever an infection of joints
- Rheumatic fever could als damage heart valve
- Can get rid of it with antibiotics
ATHLETE'S FOOT
- Caused by a fungus
- Can be caught where people who have it stood
- Public environments:shower stalls, shoes, and hot tubs
- Grows in warm, moist environments
- Symptoms:red, itching, flaky skin must use antifungal cream/powder
AIDS
- Caused by HIV virus
- Attacks cells of immune system
- Makes body unable to fight pathogens
- Symptoms:night sweats, weight loss, nausea, fatigue, white patches in mouth
- Must come in contact with blood to get AIDS/HIV
