PRESENTATION OUTLINE

COLD

  • Is caused by a virus (infection of respiritory system)
  • Can only reproduce in a living cell
  • Symptoms:cough, stuffy/runny nose, and headache
  • Can only treat symptoms, no cure

INFLUENZA AKA THE FLU

  • Caused by highly contagious virus (respiratory)
  • Symptoms:fever, muscle aches, more severe cough
  • Usually lasts a longer amount of time

STREP THROAT

  • Contagious bacterial infection
  • Symptoms:fever, pain, redness, swelling of throat and tonsils
  • Could cause rheumatic fever an infection of joints
  • Rheumatic fever could als damage heart valve
  • Can get rid of it with antibiotics

ATHLETE'S FOOT

  • Caused by a fungus
  • Can be caught where people who have it stood
  • Public environments:shower stalls, shoes, and hot tubs
  • Grows in warm, moist environments
  • Symptoms:red, itching, flaky skin must use antifungal cream/powder

AIDS

  • Caused by HIV virus
  • Attacks cells of immune system
  • Makes body unable to fight pathogens
  • Symptoms:night sweats, weight loss, nausea, fatigue, white patches in mouth
  • Must come in contact with blood to get AIDS/HIV
