USES

• Both thermoplastics and thermosetting plastics
• Commonly thermoplastics are used
• Used in manufacturing for a wide variety of products
• Eg. Bottle tops, lego
• Most common material is ABS

METHOD

• ABS granules in hopper
• Forced into heated chamber with archimedian screw system
• Injected into the two part negative mould
• Component rapidly cooled
• Ejected from the mould and allowed to fully cool

PROS

• High precision
• Highly detailed products can be made
• Very high rate if production

CONS

• Very expensive
• Requires high tech equipment
• Can be wasteful
