PRESENTATION OUTLINE
HOW DOES THE GOVERNMENT MANIPULATE INFORMATION GIVEN TO SOCIETY?
Our topic connects to the book 1984 because the government in the book tries to brainwash and control the people's thoughts, there even was a thought police. This relates to our project because we show examples of government using different methods to control the way Americans think and know.
We chose to research this topic because we think it impacts everybody. It's important that everyone knows about media manipulation so that we can all have a better idea of the truth, and not just what the government wants us to think.
Methods the government uses to control what Americans think and know.
Government secrecy
Government secrecy is when the government shields the public from information and events because they're worried about how the people may react or they just don't want people to know about the subject at all.
Scare tactics
The government will use scare tactics in the media to make people believe they are in greater danger than they actually are. They do this because then people would be quicker to accept the idea of attacking or going to war because they believe it will keep them safer.
Brainwashing
The government used the media as a way to try and control what people think about a certain subject. They do this so people will do what the government wants them to do or believes what they want them to believe.
Subliminal messages
The government will use subliminal messages to try and influence the thinking of people without them even knowing or suspecting anything. They do this because while the watching tv, the brain is most vulnerable because the critical thinking part of your brain isn't as alert because the left side (critical thinking side) isn't as active.
