PRESENTATION OUTLINE

LEPIDOPTERAS

  • The Lepidoptera species include broad wings, overlapping scales and brightly colored.
  • Butterflies and moths
  • 4 stages which include egg, larva, pupa and adult.
  • Of the 200000 only 2000 are butterflies the rest are moths

COLEOPTERA

  • The Coleoptera species includes hardened forewings, six legs, and antennae
  • Beetles and weevils
  • Over one quarter of all known species are beetles
  • Many of them live in the nests of other creatures

HEMIPTERA

  • Most hemiptera's have a narrow shaped body, 4 wings, and have specialized mouth for piercing and sucking
  • Aphids, plant and leaf hoppers, shield bugs, etc
  • Live worldwide
  • Bodies are thickened and leathery

Orthoptera

  • They have long legs for jumping, cylindrical bodies, compound eyes, and multiple joints and antennae
  • Grasshoppers, crickets, katydids, etc
  • Sizes range from 1/4 to 2 inches long
  • There are 27 native species

Blattodea

  • The blattodea species has an oval flattened body, compound eyes, chewing mouth parts and thorax covered by large plate
  • Cockroaches
  • They are omnivorous creatures
  • Adaptable to both wet or dry environments

Odonata

  • Odonata include very large eyes, transparent wings long slender bodies and many small veins
  • Dragonflies, and damselflies
  • Odonatas are prehistoric creatures
  • Dragonflies have excellent vision.

HYMENOPTERA

  • Hymenoptera have connecting fire wings, hind wings, antennae, mouth parts made for sucking nectar
  • Ants, bees, wasps, etc.
  • Known to cause severe allergic reactions
  • Located worldwide

DIPTERA

  • Diptera include sponging mouth pieces, one pair of wings, large compound eyes
  • Flies, Mosquitos, horse and flesh flies
  • There are over 120000 different species of dipteras
  • Some are able to pierce and bite your skin
