International Court of Justice

A Body of the United Nations

The Purpose:
Article 2 of the UN Charter states that "all members shall settle their international disputes by peaceful means in such a manner that international peace and security, and justice, are not endangered."

The International Court of Justice was founded in 1945 after the break up of the Permanent Court of Justice which was poorly made after WWI

The International Court of Justice is established at the Peace Palace in The Hague Netherlands

It obtains 15 Courts Justices that serve a 9 year term all from different nations. Often called, "The World Court."
With the current President being Peter Tomka
Official languages: English and French

Who are the members and who is Eligible?

All nations part of the UN are subject to the Court. (193 member states)
