INTERPRETER TRAINING CLASS
"You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do. He will speak to the people for you, and it will be as if he were your mouth and as if you were God to him." Ex. 4:15-16

1. A person who interprets, especially one who translates speech orally.
2. A program that can analyze and execute a program line by line.
PREPARE TO INTERPRET
- EACH INTERPRETING ASSIGNMENT REQUIRES PREP TIME
- The more you know about the context, subject matter, and terminology of the material, the better your performance while interpreting.
DAY OF INTERPRETING ASSIGNMENT
- ARRIVE EARLY TO SET-UP
- DRESS APPROPRIATELY
- Determine Working Arrangements (Booth/Live)
WORKING WITH INTERPRETING EQUIPMENT
- Set headset volume to the lowest level at which you can comfortably listen to the speaker.
- Deliver interpretation at a comfortable low speaking volume.
- When not in use turn microphones off.
- Use break time as prep time.
KEEP IMPROVING
- Listen carefully to language used by native speakers from different countries.
- Take an active interest in the world, and read widely.
- Listen carefully to the work of your colleagues.
- Dictionaries with explanations, definitions, and diagrams are helpful.
- Record your interpretation and evaluate your own performance.
