CRIME OF PASSION

  • Someone’s excuse for committing a crime due to sudden anger or heartbreak
  • Ex: Someone finds their boyfriend or girlfriend cheating and they kill the person they are cheating with.
  • In court this excuse can be used to reduce years in prison.

SOCIOPATH VS PSYCHOPATH

  • Sociopath: a person with a personality disorder manifesting itself in extreme antisocial attitudes and violent behavior and a lack of conscience
  • Psychopath: a person suffering from a chronic mental disorder with abnormal or violent social disorder

ANTISOCIAL DISORDER

  • A mental disorder where a person shows constant disregard towards right and wrong and ignores the rights and feelings of others.
  • Symptoms: arrogance, impulsiveness, failure to plan ahead, lack of remorse.
  • Examples of serial killers with antisocial disorder : Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy and Charles Manson

BRAIN STRUCTURE

  • Neuroscientists believe the orbital cortex is involved with “ethical behavior, moral decision making and impulse control”.
  • They also say how that the orbital cortex could be functioning incorrectly and putting “a brake” on the amygdale.

  • Nature is involved because of brain structure and brain chemistry.
  • Nurture is involved because of childhood development with things like parenting or being bullied.
