PLOT SUMMARY

• Chris McCandless graduates from college and hits the road
• He contacts no one he used to know and changes his name to Alex
• He hitchhikes his way across the country and impacts many people
• His final adventure was going to try and survive in the alaskan bush
• While trying to live off the land he starved to death in Alaska

MAJOR CHARACTERS

• Chris McCandless (Alex)- Main character
• Ronald Franz- An old man that became really close to Chris
• Wayne Westerberg: Chris worked for him for a while
• Jim Gallien: Last person to see Chris alive

CONFLICTS

• Man vs Nature: Alex goes to Alaska and has tries to survive off the land
• Man vs Man: When he was little Alex had lots of fights with his parents
• Man vs Man: As he went across the country he got into trouble woth the law
• Man vs Nature: Alex had to find food when he couldn't buy it

FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE

• Dialect- "Hand me the goddamn wrench, will you? An angry, muffled voice demands."
• Shows how the characters talk in the book
• Oxymoron- "He was unheeded happy."
• Conflict of words. Unheeded means means unsatisfied, but he's still happy

SYMBOLS

• The moose- poor relationship with the wild and unpreparedness
• His car- hate of materialistic things
