Parts of an Insect

Insects pollinate which help other insects to reproduce.

Why Are Insects So Successful?
-Compound eyes can detect color and motion
-Antenna allows insects to sense odors and vibrations around them
-Some insects have special mouth parts to help get food when necessary

ADAPTATIONS THAT HELP INSECTS SURVIVE

  • Insects can blend into their surroundings to hide from predators
  • Some insects have wings to fly away from predators and travel faster
  • Some insects are really small so predators wont be able to see them
  • Some insects like beetles have a hard outer shell to protect their body
  • Butterflies' mouths help get deep down into the flower for food

What I Learned:
- Cockroaches are more active during the night than the day time
- They like to eat carrots that are a little rotten
- Cockroaches carry mites, but are not harmful to the cockroach or humans
- Cockroaches are native only to the island of Madagascar thus the name Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches

Untitled Slide

THE HISSING SOUND IS DUE TO FORCING AIR THROUGH THEIR SPIRACLES.

Cockroaches use the hissing as a way to communicate with each other
