HIS INVENTION

• Charles Townshend invented the four field system
• He was called turnip townshend because of his invention

FOUR FIELD SYSTEM

• Four field system was a system of crop rotation
• It was meant so the land could be fertile but also give crops at the same time

• The crops were grown in succession: wheat, clover, barley, turnip
• Clover gave nitrogen back into the soil and when animals came to graze on the crops their droppings fertilized the land
