•KING HENRY WAS KING FROM 1056 TO 1105/6

THIS CONTROVERSY LED TO NEARLY 50 YEARS

OF CIVIL WAR IN GERMANY.

THE KING WAS GRANTED THE RIGHT TO INVEST BISHOPS WITH SECULAR

AUTHORITY IN THE TERRITORIES THEY GOVERNED BUT NOT WITH SACRED AUTHORITY
